DIY and Fairy Kei How To Guides!

Hello everyone! It’s come to my attention that I didn’t have a clickable search on the main page for DIY or How To guides. This oversight is now fixed!

If anyone knows of any great guides for making fairy kei accessories or clothing, please feel free to submit them!

lilacck:

There are really a few things I don’t like about tumblr, in my opinion everything would be nicer if some people:

☆ added the source (c’mon, there’s a source, always there is)
☆ put the right tags
☆ avoided to crop watermarks »

is not so complicated~

→ Untitled: Fairy kei is a style. Spank! is a brand. Decora /= fairy kei.

Unless it’s a fairy-decora mix. But I do agree with this, though I’m trying to use the term “pastel-kei” for the whole of things, and I see fairy-kei and pop-kei as substyles.

I’ve always thought of pop-kei as having more bright, vibrant colors ala…

pastelsprinkles:

Even though 6%DOKIDOKI and Spank! do have bright colors (I don’t consider 6%DOKIDOKI to be fairy-kei or pop-kei but rather “neo fairy decora” or “neo decora”) Spank! also has plenty of pastels. The key focus in fairy-kei and pop-kei (which I consider pop-kei to be the 80’s-ish sort of style) is usually pastels, so I just group them all together as “pastel-kei”.

There are so many different titles popping up for different fashion groups it all gets kind of silly~! ^^ It’s funny that this topic seems to ruffle so many tail feathers, too. I like to consider my fashion mostly fairy-kei, but I’ve found in my searching that pretty much ALL the different brands and fashions carry items that will go with just about any other fashion. It’s easy to incorporate Angelic Pretty jewelry without being considered lolita, and 6%DOKIDOKI pastel skirts without being considered decora. I think ultimately it has more to do with what a person puts together than where they bought their clothing.

I wonder if someone shouldn’t ask Tavuchi exactly what she wants her “style” to be called, and let it go from there? Until then, for me it makes sense that her pastel offerings fit more with the fairy kei crowd, while her brighter offerings fit more with the pop kei or decora crowd. A label always has a start somewhere, wether it’s the designer or a reporter. It sticks around when a lot of people use it and understand what it’s labeling.

I’ve always thought of pop-kei as having more bright, vibrant colors ala 6%DOKIDOKI and Spank!, while fairy-kei encompasses the pastels of Ticket to Darling and Nile Perch. I would think of pastel-kei as an offshoot of fairy-kei for that reason. So many of the fashion genres now are just offshoots and evolutions of each other with slight differences.

There is definitely a fine line with accessories and look where it crosses over into decora and deco-lolita though.

Favorite Things About Dressing Fairy-Kei

I’d love to hear everyone’s favorite reason for dressing Fairy-Kei~! Please reply?

My own reason:

I love how carefree, friendly, and fun being a child is. It’s wonderful to wear a fashion that reflects that, and allows me to be colorful and sweet, like sugary candy for the eye! I find that the cute accessories and colors make me smile, no matter what kind of day I may be having, and they do the same for others. <3 It’s also a great excuse to continue collecting unicorns and 80s toys!

Hello everyone!

Sorry for the hiatus, I’m just now recovering from finals and getting caught up with the blog. <3

I’m also adding two new tags which can be searched from the main page, “Shop Girls” and “Shops”, to make it easier to find just the adorable girls we all love and pictures of the shops we wish we could wander in to. I’m going to be retroactively tagging a lot of pictures, so those will be searchable over the next few days.

For those who didn’t realize, from the main page there are a variety of searchable tags at the top, allowing you to find just what you’re looking for without the pain of digging through the rest. There are also links to ask questions, or submit your own posts to Fuck Yeah Fairy Kei!

Happy Spring!
